Green
This will be the word you will remember most when you visit Costa Rica; a green that extends from the winding coasts of the South Pacific to the warm plains of the North, a green essence that climbs the splendid mountains like those of the Talamanca Mountain Range, covering ancestral volcanoes like Poás, Irazú or Turrialba.
In a territory of only 51,100 square kilometers, the varied natural landscapes are extraordinary, nature develops here with amazing strength and energy. With such a diverse topography it is the ideal place for adventure tourism. In Costa Rica you can canopy through the canopy of extraodinariamente giagantescos trees, rafting in beautiful rivers surrounded by vegetation, climb deep cliffs, bungee jumping and of course surfing in the Pacific and Caribbean.
Two coasts
Costa Rica has a large number and variety of beaches on its two coasts. In the North Pacific, the Gulf of Papagayo, Tamarindo, Playa Hermosa, Playa Dominical, Sámara and Nosara are extensive beaches with important tourist developments ideal for family vacations with many attractions for children; Near the Central Pacific you will discover beautiful beaches such as Playa Blanca and Manuel Antonio where couples will find the perfect setting for their honeymoon. To the south the beaches of Dominical, Uvita and Ballena are important ecotourism destinations. On the Caribbean coast you will find white sand beaches such as Cahuita, Puerto Viejo and Gandoca where the sea is crystal clear.
Natural protected areas represent 31% of the national territory. Here, there are majestic primary and secondary forests, cloud forests such as Monteverde Reserve, Santa Elena and San Gerardo de Dota, extensive rainforests such as Braulio Carrillo National Park, Sarapiqui, Corcovado National Park, Manuel Antonio National Park, the only transitional rainforest. of Carara National Park, or the dry tropical forest of Santa Rosa National Park in the North Pacific.
Biodiversity
All these areas are home to an inexhaustible biodiversity, one of the most abundant, representing 5% of the planet. More than 900 species of birds including hummingbirds, scarlet macaws and toucans coexist with 208 species of mammals such as sloths, monkeys or felines such as jaguars. Insects, reptiles, amphibians and butterflies are also found throughout the territory!
Nature and life are everywhere, from the 1200 species of orchids that adorn our trees to the life that springs up on the beaches each year when millions of green, leatherback and hawksbill turtles arrive on the Caribbean coast at Tortuguero National Park to lay their eggs, traveling from hundreds of miles away. Similarly, in Ostional, on the Pacific, thousands of Kemp’s Ridley turtles arrive on the beach each year.
This infinite green also runs through extensive plains such as those of La Fortuna, where the Arenal Volcano rises, or those of the Northern Caribbean where rivers flow in sweeping meanders until they reach the sea. Mangroves and wetlands such as Caño Negro, Sierpe and Tempisque give rest to many birds. Costa Rica has a wide range of hotels with attractive offers for all budgets.
