Night Walk to Observe Wildlife
Monteverde’s forest changes character after dark, and this guided night walk is built around that shift. You set out around 5:15 PM as the daytime animals like sloths and coatis settle in and the nocturnal ones start moving. Over roughly 2.5 hours, a bilingual guide who knows the reserve’s wildlife and ecology leads you along the trails with a flashlight, pointing out what most people would walk straight past.
What you see depends on the night, but common sightings include gray foxes, porcupines, agoutis, tarantulas, frogs, and birds roosting for the night. The pace is easy and the guide does the spotting, so you can just watch and listen.
The tour includes reserve entrance fees, round-trip transportation from Monteverde-area hotels, and the guide. Bring sturdy hiking shoes, a raincoat, and a camera. Departure is at 5:15 PM with return by 7:45 PM. Adults $38, children 4-12 $32, under 4 free (minimum age 2); minimum 2 people.
