Snorkeling & Hiking in Cahuita National Park

This 6 to 7-hour trip combines two ways to see Cahuita National Park: a boat ride out to the coral reef and a walk back through the rainforest. You’ll spend around two hours snorkeling over one of Costa Rica’s best-known reefs, home to 35 species of coral, 123 species of tropical fish, three species of sharks, six species of eels, plus sea urchins, shellfish, and crustaceans.

Afterward, a bilingual guide leads a 5-kilometer hike along the trail between Cahuita Point and the town of Cahuita. Along the way you may spot sloths, white-faced and howler monkeys, and snakes including boas, bocaraca, bushmasters, and eyelash vipers.

The tour includes your guide, snorkel gear, boat, park entrance, fruit, lunch, and hotel pickup from Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Boats hold up to 14 people; minimum two to run. Departures are 8:45 and 9:00 am from Puerto Viejo, 9:30 am from Cahuita. Bring a swimsuit, towel, walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, water, sunglasses, and a camera.
