This 15-day Family Adventure, Jungle to Coast, takes you from the vibrant capital of San José to the Caribbean charm of Puerto Viejo, the remote rainforests of Boca Tapada, and the volcano views of Arenal. Day 1: Arrive to San José

Welcome to Costa Rica! For your added comfort, once you have passed immigration and customs and stepped out of the airport doors, you will have one of our representatives waiting for you outside with a sign with your name on it. He will drive you to your hotel in San José.

Day 2: Enjoy an excursion to La Paz Waterfall Gardens

You will visit the La Paz Water Fall Garden for a scrumptious lunch and tour. When we arrive to La Paz we will walk through a trail leading to a spectacular waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. Inside the park we will also visit the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the bird house, the butterfly garden and the frog’s exhibit. Suitable for all ages.

Day 3: In the morning take your rented car and enjoy a scenic drive to Puerto Viejo de Limon, followed by a free afternoon in town to relax and explore at your own pace.

Located in Limon province on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a beach lover’s paradise. Here, amidst the exotic flora and fauna, lies a vibrant seaside town with gorgeous beaches, crystal clear blue waters, and some of the most amazing surfing opportunities. Formerly a quiet little fishing village, Puerto Viejo has a charm that is all its own. With its relaxed atmosphere and its own unique blend of Latino, Afro-Caribbean and Bribri indigenous cultures.

Day 4: Dive into adventure with snorkeling and hiking in Cahuita National Park along Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.

Hop aboard a 12-person boat for an unforgettable adventure around Cahuita National Park. Guided by a local expert and captain, you’ll snorkel for about two hours in Costa Rica’s most important coral reef, home to 35 coral species, over 120 tropical fish species, sharks, eels, sea urchins, and more. After snorkeling, enjoy a guided 5 km hike along the park’s scenic trail from Cahuita Point to the town of Cahuita. Along the way, discover the rich biodiversity of the region, including sloths, monkeys, colorful birds, and several snake species. A perfect mix of marine exploration and rainforest discovery!

Day 5: Free Day at Puerto Viejo de Limón

Day 6: Enjoy the landscapes driving / Self-drive from Namuwoki to Boca Tapada.

Boca Tapada is a hidden gem in northern Costa Rica near the Nicaraguan border, offering a peaceful rainforest escape rich in biodiversity. It’s a haven for bird and nature lovers, home to the endangered Great Green Macaw and rare Almendro trees. The nearby Maquenque Biological Reserve protects vast tropical forests, wetlands, and rivers. Visitors can explore by boat or canoe along the San Carlos River, spotting wildlife like crocodiles, turtles, herons, and kingfishers in a truly untouched natural setting.

Day 9: Explore the breathtaking Hanging Bridges in Arenal

Day 10: Enjoy the landscapes driving / Self-drive from Arenal to Rincon de la Vieja.

Rincón de la Vieja National Park, near Liberia, is a lesser-known gem filled with wildlife, waterfalls, and geothermal wonders. Spread over 34,800 acres, it features two volcanoes, hot springs, mud pots, and scenic trails. Spot monkeys, sloths, and birds while hiking, horseback riding, or ziplining. Don’t miss the volcanic mud baths—great for your skin and a fun photo! Note: Las Pailas sector is closed on Mondays.

Day 11: Shared Excursion| River Tour (Tubing).

Enjoy non-stop fun and excitement bouncing and splashing down five km (three miles) of Class II and III rapids along this narrow, rushing river of crystal-clear water. There are plenty of quiet pools along the way to appreciate the beautiful tropical scenery of the Rio Negro (Black River). Our special, individual river tube rafts are designed with handles and protective bottoms. Guides go with you and ensure your safety and enjoyment throughout the duration of your experience. Part of your river tubing adventure includes riding our trusty Costa Rican ranch horses from Hacienda Guachipelin along scenic trails through the forest to get to the river.

Day 12: Enjoy the landscapes driving from Rincon de la Vieja to Tamarindo.

Tamarindo is Costa Rica’s top surf and beach town, known for its 3.5 km stretch of white sand perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and beginner surfing. The town offers great restaurants, lively nightlife, and surf shops like Witch’s Rock with rentals and oceanfront dining. It’s also a hub for outdoor adventures—from sport fishing and turtle watching to horseback riding, zip-lining, snorkeling, and scuba diving at the Catalina Islands. Its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the northern peninsula.

Day 13: Enjoy the surf time with the shared Excursion| Half Day Surf Lessons

Tamarindo is the best place to learn how to surf. Come and enjoy this adventure, all equipment necessary for the lesson is provided, board and wetsuit. The lesson plan has evolved to include all the essential information to get the student able to practice efficiently and enjoy the gift of surfing.
