Nobody else on the trip
Every itinerary here is private. There is no group, no fixed departure date and no coach. You travel by private transfer or in your own rental car, and you set the pace.
Short days between places
We keep the driving down. Where a transfer is genuinely long – the boat into Tortuguero, for example – we make the journey part of the trip rather than something to endure.
Hotels chosen one at a time
We do not have a single hotel chain we push. Each stay is picked for what that particular place does well: Arenal Kioro for the volcano view, El Silencio for the quiet, Cala Luna for the beach. If you want to trade up or down at any point in the route, say so and we will change it.
Real free days
Every itinerary we build has days with nothing scheduled. On a honeymoon that is not a gap in the programme – it is the point.

None of these is fixed. Each one is a starting point – we move nights, swap hotels and change the order as a matter of course. Prices depend on the season and the rooms you choose, so we quote them per enquiry rather than printing a headline figure that turns out not to apply to you.
Tortuguero, Arenal & Tamarindo
The fullest of the three, and the one most honeymooners pick. You start on the Caribbean side in Tortuguero, which you can only reach by boat, cross to the Arenal volcano, then to the hot rivers at Río Perdido, and finish with three nights on the Pacific at Tamarindo including a sunset catamaran sail.

The short one. Three of Costa Rica’s best known places in a week, with private transfers throughout so neither of you has to drive. It includes a sunset cruise on Lake Arenal and the San Lucas treetop dining experience in Monteverde, which is the single most romantic evening on any of these three routes.

Bajos del Toro, Arenal & Manuel Antonio
The quiet one, and the one we would put in front of an anniversary couple. It opens at El Silencio Lodge in Bajos del Toro, a cloud forest valley most visitors never reach, and closes at Makanda by the Sea above Manuel Antonio, which is adults only. Self-drive at your own pace, with one scheduled activity every second day.

Most of the honeymoons we arrange do not match one of the routes above exactly. People move a night, swap a beach for a different beach, add three days at the end, or start from a wedding somewhere else in the region. That is normal, and it costs you nothing to ask.

Where to go – the regions that work for couples
Each of these is good at something and less good at something else. We would rather say so now than have you find out on day four.
Arenal and La Fortuna
Hot springs under a volcano, and the easiest sense of arrival in the country. A room with a direct volcano view is worth the upgrade. It is not the place for solitude – La Fortuna is a busy little town and the springs are shared.
Monteverde
Cloud forest, cool evenings and genuinely different from everywhere else you will go. Good for couples who like walking. It is often grey and wet even in the dry season and the road up is slow, so we would not put it last if you want to end on a high.
Guanacaste – Tamarindo, Papagayo, Nosara
The most reliable sunshine in the country and the best sunsets. Dry season here is properly dry. In the green season the landscape is far greener but showers are daily. Tamarindo itself is lively; if you want quiet we place you outside it.
Manuel Antonio
Rainforest that runs straight into the beach, monkeys around the hotel, and some very good adults-only hotels on the ridge above the bay. It is the most visited stretch of the Pacific coast, so the national park itself is busy – go early or not at all.
The Osa Peninsula
The wildest place we send anyone. Remote eco-lodges, extraordinary wildlife and almost nobody there. It takes real time to reach and the lodges are simple by design, so it is not a spa holiday. The couples who choose it never regret it.
Tortuguero and the Caribbean
Canals you travel by boat, a completely different feel from the Pacific, and turtles nesting between July and October. It rains a lot, year round. Best as two or three nights inside a longer trip rather than as a beach finish. More about the Caribbean coast

We do not have one hotel partner we push at everybody. These places appear in the routes above because they earn it, and every one of them can be swapped if it is not your style.
Tortuga Lodge & Gardens in Tortuguero, Rio Perdido in Guanacaste, Belmar in Monteverde and Xandari near the airport complete the list. If you want to go more luxurious at any point in the route, or simpler, tell us where and we will change it.

Hot springs and a sunset sail
The catamaran sail out of Tamarindo is already part of the twelve-day route. Treetop dining at San Lucas in Monteverde is part of the eight-day one.
Room and honeymoon arrangements. We tell the hotel it is your honeymoon, which usually means an upgrade if one is free, and often flowers or a bottle waiting when you arrive. We cannot promise it, but we always ask.

Is Costa Rica a good honeymoon destination?
Yes, and for a specific reason: it is small. You can have rainforest, volcanoes and two coastlines in ten days without long internal flights or six-hour drives. That leaves more of your holiday actually being a holiday.
How long should a Costa Rica honeymoon be?
Ten to twelve days is the sweet spot, long enough for three places without rushing. A week works if you keep it to two places. Anything under a week and you will spend too much of it moving.
When is the best time to go to Costa Rica for a honeymoon?
December to April for the most reliable sun. May to July if you would rather have fewer people and lower prices, with rain usually confined to the afternoon. September and October are the wettest on the Pacific but often the best months on the Caribbean side.
How far in advance should we book?
For travel in December, January, Easter or over New Year, six to nine months. For the green season, three to four months is usually comfortable. Earlier is always easier, because the best rooms for couples are the ones that go first.
Do we have to drive in Costa Rica?
No. Every itinerary can be run on private transfers instead of a rental car. Self-drive is cheaper and gives you more freedom; transfers mean neither of you has to concentrate. Both work well, so tell us which you prefer.
Is Costa Rica safe for couples?
Costa Rica is one of the safer countries in the region and the areas we send couples to are well used to visitors. The normal advice applies: do not leave anything in a parked car, and use the hotel safe. Our local number is with you for the whole trip.
Are your honeymoon trips private?
Yes. There are no group departures. Some individual excursions are shared with other travellers because that is how they are run at that location. Where an excursion is shared we say so in the itinerary, and a private version is usually available.
Can we combine rainforest and beach?
That is the standard shape of a Costa Rica honeymoon, and all three routes above do it: rainforest first, beach last, so you finish relaxed.
Can you arrange something special for the wedding night or an anniversary?
Yes. A private dinner, a spa afternoon, a sunset sail. Tell us the occasion in the enquiry and we will build it into the route rather than bolt it on at the end.
Can we get married in Costa Rica?
We arrange honeymoons and romantic trips rather than the wedding itself. If you are marrying elsewhere in the region and want the honeymoon to start straight afterwards, that is something we do often.
What does a Costa Rica honeymoon cost?
It depends almost entirely on the hotels. Tell us roughly what you have in mind and we will build to it, which saves both of us a round of guessing. There is no charge for a proposal.
What is included in the price you quote?
Accommodation with the breakfasts stated, transfers or car hire, the excursions listed, and our planning and support throughout. International flights are not included unless you ask us to look at them.
Do you help if something goes wrong while we are there?
Yes. You have a Costa Rican number for the whole trip and someone answers it. That is the main practical difference between booking with us and booking online.
We are not sure what we want yet. Can we still ask?
Please do. Most enquiries start with something like “we have two weeks in February and we like the idea of rainforest”. That is enough to work with.
