Guided Tour to Monteverde Reserve
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve covers 25,730 acres (10,415 hectares) in Costa Rica’s Pavas region and is the largest privately protected area in the area. On this roughly 4-hour guided walk, a bilingual guide leads you along the reserve’s forest trails and points out what’s easy to miss on your own: the resplendent quetzal, several hummingbird species, and the more than 500 kinds of orchids the reserve is known for. Along the way you’ll also see ferns, vines, mosses, lichens, and moths that thrive in the cool, damp cloud forest.
Departures run at 7:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 1:00 PM, with a minimum of 2 participants per tour. The wildlife is often most active in the early morning, so the 7:00 AM start is a good choice for birding. Bring hiking shoes, binoculars, a raincoat, and a camera.
