Nocturnal Experience + Dinner
Costa Rica’s forests get busy after dark, and this evening tour takes you to La Tigra village, about a 30-minute drive from La Fortuna, to see it happen. You’ll spend time on the Méndez family’s conservation property, a place they’ve worked to protect and regenerate over the years.
The walk covers roughly 600 meters through a recovering patch of forest, led by a bilingual naturalist guide who knows where to look. Along the way you’ll pass water mirrors, still pools that make it easier to spot wildlife, and a frog sanctuary. Depending on the night, you might see birds, mammals, insects, bats, and several frog species, including the hammer frog, bullfrog, red-eyed tree frog, and glass frog. The evening ends with a traditional Costa Rican dinner cooked in a wood-fired oven, eaten outside under the stars.
The tour runs about 4 hours, departing at 16:30 or 17:00 and returning around 21:00. Included: round-trip hotel transport, guide, sanctuary entrance, flashlights and lanterns, bottled water, a snack, and dinner. Bring hiking shoes, a raincoat or poncho, insect repellent, and comfortable clothes for the evening.
